2020 Programming
Dear Early Learning Families,
ECFE and Preschool programming will begin on Monday, September 21. The ECFE catalog will be posted online to view late next week with a communication to families alerting them when it is available.
A communication was sent to Preschool families on July 29 iterating that more information for Preschool would be forthcoming the week of August 10 - please note, that is still the case.
Make sure to keep an eye out on our website ce.sowashco.org and our social media channels, for the latest information.
Thank you for your patience as we work through details following the Governors announcement.
Community Education Early Learning Programs, in partnership with South Washington County Schools, offer engaging, enriching and personalized experiences for all of our earliest learners, age birth to five.
Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) - Unique to Minnesota, Early Childhood Family Education is at the heart of our Early Learning Programs, and is offered only through Public School District Community Education programs like ours. ECFE provides families with early school connection, the parent resources and tools needed to provide the best possible environment for their child's learning and growth, and is available for children birth to age five.
Early Childhood Screening - Early Childhood Developmental Screening is a check of a child's development, vision and hearing, growth, health history and immunizations. Screening is recommended when a child is three to four years old, but must be completed before starting kindergarten in a Minnesota public school*. Each screening is free, takes approximately 45 minutes, and a parent or legal guardian stays with the child during the screening process. Screening is conducted at the District Program Center.
*Screening is also required prior to enrolling in our 4 year old preschool programs.
Preschool - The Preschool program is for 4 year olds prior to their year starting Kindergarten. The Preschool program is located at most elementary school sites and offers a 5 day per week morning or afternoon option.
The three's preschool program provides various options for families. Families can choose classes with a parent/child day, a child only experience, a 3-5 year old mixed age class or an evening preschool option.
Preschool Activities, Classes and Recreation - Offered through Community Education's Youth Enrichment program, preschool activities and classes offer low cost, high quality recreational opportunities for preschool aged children. Examples of such activities include; art, music and dance, drama, and soccer classes.
Preschool Swimming Lessons - Offered through Community Education's Aquatics program, classes are taught by certified, knowledgeable and caring instructors who can help swimmers at every level feel comfortable in the water and progress to the next level. Although some children may advance more quickly or slowly, our instructors ensure that everyone receives the instruction they need.
In our program, parents or guardians of children up to 5 years of age will actively participate in their kids' swim lessons. This not only helps increase the child's comfort level in the water, but can help parents understand the process and practice skills with their children between classes.
