Adult Swimming Lessons
Have you ever wanted to learn to swim? South Washington County Community Education offers swimming lessons for teens and adults. Classes are designed for nervous beginners as well as those who wish to learn more strokes. Classes focus on attaining basic skills, while building and advancing each skill once learned.
Beginner 1: Introduction to water skills: Lessons help participants feel comfortable in the water, transitioning to front and back floats with assistance, how to regain footing, submerging, glides, the flutter kick, finning and arm strokes. No prerequisite.
Beginner 2: Fundamental aquatics skills: comfort in the shallow water is established and floating is now independent, work is now transitioning to rolling over and back, elementary backstroke, backstroke, front crawl with side breathing, underwater retrieval, breath control while swimming and comfort in deep water. Prerequisite - Adult Beginner 1
Beginner 3 & Intermediate 1: Stroke development and improvement: Adults are able to swim the width of the pool without stopping and can do the elementary backstroke the same distance. Skills continue on breathing rotation, backstroke, front crawl, elementary backstroke. New skills in sidestroke and breaststroke are introduced along with diving from the deck and confidence in deep water. Intermediate 1 skills work on the timing of sidestroke and breaststroke, the introduction to the butterfly stroke, increased tim with treading water and swimming yardage. Prerequisite - Adult Beginner 2
Private: Ages 13+ This individual time enables you to work one-on-one with the instructor to enhance skills of your choosing.
Ladies Only: Offered during the fall season on Saturday afternoons.
